Nickelback - Their Story

By Matt Ryan

Nickelback is a rock band, originating from Canada, that is made up of 5 stunningly talented musicians. The mix of personalities and the obvious skill creates music that is nothing short of energetic. Their energy and passion attracts fans - of all ages - continuously, hit after hit. If you enjoy music, and welcome a good show, attending a Nickelback performance should be on the top of your list for the year.

This Canadian rock band began their career back in the 90's, and was inspired by the once popular band - "Creed". These musicians were determined to make it to the top regardless of the tough road they had in front of them. They definitely dealt with their share of difficulties and struggles, but made a quick rise regardless. Today they are amongst some of the top rock and roll bands around.

Chad Kroeger - lead singer of Nickelback - had perfected his musical talent by performing with many small bands in his hometown of Hanna. He, like many other musicians, knew he would have to go bigger if he ever wanted to make a name for himself. He, and his brother Mike, went off to Vancouver where they could hopefully begin to get noticed.

In 1996, two more musicians joined Chad and Mike on their adventure - Ryan Vikedal and Ryan Peake. This is when the group decided to call themselves Nickelback. (Nickelback was a clever name, devised from a catch phrase Mike would say to his customers when he worked at Starbucks.)

The talent that these musicians brought to the table was breath taking, but their energy and passion was much more captivating. Their passion and energy enabled them to do their own advertising. They approached club owners, radio stations, and crated their own posters for their gigs - they even created their own YouTube website. This drive got them to the point that - also in 1996 - they were able to begin touring and sharing their music.

The year 2000 opened new doors for the band. Canadian radio stations were looking to showcase only local bands this year, which gave Nickelback their window of opportunity. "The State" was their most recent release, and was the song that began to catch the attention of many - including recording artists. Canadian and U.S. recording firms signed contracts with the band for distribution rights of "The State".

In 2005, Ryan Vikedal left and Daniel Adair took his place. This did not slow the band down one bit. Daniel had the same passion and drive that the other members had, and they kept moving forward. In 2005 the released an album called "All the Right Reasons". This album stayed on the top 30 charts for two years, which is nearly unheard of. Additionally, the album sold over 7-million copies in the U.S. alone!

The passion that drives Nickelback is what makes them so special and what captivates thousands of audiences each year. Their music is beyond phenomenal, and their shows are even better. (They actually entice audiences to participate in their shows!) Their energy quickly spreads throughout the entire audience; you cannot help but enjoy your time at one of their performances. Their 2009 tour is in full swing; get tickets now while you still have a chance! - 18758
