A Popular American Author's Books That Were Turned Into Films
John Grisham has been one of America's most beloved writers since 1989. His books have sold over 250 million copies globally. The preponderance of his books, in truth seventeen in all, are legal fiction on the other hand he has authored 4 non-legal fiction works and one non-fiction book. As of this time there have been ten movies made from his labor with one in the works.
His second book, "The Firm", was the first story to be completed into a picture back in 1993. Grisham's very first novel, and some may say his best book, was "A Time To Kill". This storyline was made into a motion picture in 1996 and it introduced an up and coming new actor in the lead role, Matthew McConaughey. It also starred Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Also from the year 1996 was "The Chamber" starring Chris O'Donnell, Gene Hackman and Faye Dunaway.
In 1997, "The Rainmaker" starring Matt Damon as a brand new lawyer who takes on the case of a boy denied medical treatment by a powerful insurance company. In 1998, the only movie from Grisham that was based upon an unpublished manuscript was released, "The Gingerbread Man" starring Kenneth Branagh and Robert Downey, Jr.
Of the 4 non-legal fiction books by Grisham, two have been made into movies, "A Painted House" in 2003 and the holiday favorite, "Christmas with the Kranks" starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis and adapted from the book "Skipping Christmas".
"The Runaway Jury" starring Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz was released in 2003. The next motion picture is planned for release in the year 2012. It is "The Associate", which was released as a book in January 2009.
Grisham has without doubt been one of the most famous and prolific authors in the recent past.
