My Reputation: A well mounted soap style film with Stanwyck excellent as a long-restrained widow who causes disgrace in her conservative society when she starts dating Brent. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent, Warner Anderson, Lucile Watson, John Ridgely, Eve Arden, Jerome Cowan, Esther Dale, Scotty Beckett, and Bobby Cooper. (94 minutes, 1946)

Heartland: A basic, well informed tale of hearty Americans surviving the frontier life, circa 1910. Ferrell plays a youthful widow who acknowledges a job as housekeeper for dour rancher Tom in the wilds of Wyoming. Well performed, well filmed, and beautifully understated, based on the real journals of a pioneer lady. Cast includes Rip Torn, Conchata Ferrell, Barry Primus, Lilia Skala, Megan Folson, and Amy Wright. (100 minutes, 1979)

Hannibal Rising: Here we see Hannibal as a youngster at the end of WW2 when he witnessed Nazi collaborators abusing his younger sis! As a youthful adult (Ulliel), empowered by his Japanese mothers sibling, he hunts down the killers and imposes cruel reprisal. A good piece of work however ponderous, dull and over donel, albeit on no account as gory as may be anticipated. Cast includes Gaspard Ulliel, Rhys Ifans, Gong Li, Helena Lia Tachovska, Dominic West, Aaron Thomas, Kevin McKidd, and Richard Brake. (121 minutes, 2007)

King Kong: This is the classic rendition of the beauty and the beast topic is a movie goers must, with Willis O'Brien's visual effects and expression of beast monkey Kong still unsurpassed. Very last scene atop Kingdom State Developing is now movie theater legend and Max Steiner's music score is additionally memorable. Cast includes Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, Sam Hardy, Noble Johnson, and James Flavin. (103 minutes, 1933)

The Educators: A verbose and overlong, sarcastic investigation of political idealism and hypocrisy in current Germany. A set of boisterous youthful liberals (Briihl, Erceg) see themselves as 21st-century Robin Hoods, which gives them a reprieve to steal from the rich. Problems surface while Erceg's lady friend (Jentsch) partakes in one of their adventures. (137 minutes, 2004)

Lust for Life: This is a bright adaptation of Irving Stone's biography of painter Van Gogh, vividly depicting his anguished life. Quinn captured a well-warranted Oscar for his performance as painter Guy Gauguin, in this attractive color production. Cast includes Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, James Donald, Pamela Brown, Everett Sloane, Noel Purcell, Henry Daniell, Jill Bennett, Lionel Jeffries, and Eric Pohlmann. (122 minutes, 1956)

The Proposal: This bulky soap opera set in the 1930s gives Branagh a thankless role as a minister with more complications that anyone could possibly imagine. Cast includes Kenneth Branagh, William Hurt, Madeleine Stowe, Blythe Danner, Robert Loggia, Neil Patrick Harris, and Josef Sommer. (110 minutes, 1998)

Good Times: Back when the harmonizing twosome was still considered wacky, they made this entertaining little film, with Sonny day dreaming about their potential film roles and he and Cher harmonizing "I Got You Babe." Cast includes Sonny and Cher, George Sanders, Norman Alden, and Larry Duran. (91 minutes, 1967)

Kind Hearts and Coronets: A black comedy of a castoff member of titled family setting out to remove them all. Guinness plays all 8 victims. Cast includes Dennis Cost, Alec Guinness, Valerie Hobson, Joan Greenwood, Miles Malleson, Hugh Griffith, Jeremy Spenser, and Arthur Lowe. (104 minutes, 1949)
