The Front Page: The third filming of the Hecht-MacArthur play about a crazy and woolly Chicago newspaperman in the 1920s has barely anything new to offer (with the exception of 4-letter words) although it continues to be an entertaining piece of work. Cast includes Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Carol Burnett, Susan Sarandon, Vincent Gardenia, David Wayne, Allen Garfield, Austin Pendleton, and Charles Dunning. (105 minutes, 1974)

Sense and Sensibility: A lucid, modern-day look at Jane Austin's novel in reference to 2 recently impoverished siblings one impulsive and flirtatious, the other persistently hindered and made to suppress her sensations of love. Impeccably cast and acted this is a vigorous and moving film dealing with how dissimilar identities handled them in early 19th-century England. Thompson won an Oscar for Best Screenplay Adaptation. Cast includes Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, James Fleet, Harriet Walter, Gemma Jones, Elizabeth Spriggs, Robert Hardy, Greg Prudent, Imelda Staunton, Imogen Stubbs, Hugh Laurie, and Tom Wilkinson. (135 minutes, 1995)

Last summer: A commanding tale based on Evan Hunter novel of adolescents playing on the shore in a summer resort. The film follows their games, sensual awakenings, and how evil materializes itself with incredible determination. Cathy Bums was a standout. Cast includes Richard Thomas, Barbara Hershey, Bruce Davison, Cathy Burns, Ralph Waite, and Conrad Bain. (97 minutes, 1969)

R.P.M.: The old styled lenient Quinn becomes the head of the university, and then approves a bust of liberals to spare the establishment. Inept Erich Segal script, comparably poor Kramer direction gives the film a certain camp value. Cast includes Anthony Quinn, Ann-Margret, Gary Lockwood, Paul Winfield, Graham Jarvis, and Alan Hewitt. (97 minutes, 1970)

The Hills Run Red: A Civil War Western of stolen payrolls. The movie is badly dubbed and loosely performed. Cast includes Thomas Hunter, Henry Silva, Dan Duryea, and Nando Gazzola. (89 minutes, 1966)

Mrs. Brown, You've got a Lovely Daughter: A stupid reprieve for a film, with Herman and his Hermits heading for London to enter their greyhound in a race. In between the anticipation they harmonize some of their big hit songs. Cast includes Herman's Hermits, Stanley Holloway, Mona Washbourne, Sara Caldwell, and Javelin Percival. (100 minutes, 1984)

Defiance: An abrasive little film in reference to rootless blue-collar hermit Vincent, who tries to match up his dying kid's bone marrow to his own. He then tames a ferocious N.Y.C. street gang. Cast includes Jan-Michael Vincent, Craft Camey, Theresa Saldana, and Danny Aiello. (102 minutes, 1980)

Single Handed: A pitiful female, two times impregnated and three times divorced plans to become prostitute. Mansfield's last film was not seen in theaters until after her death. Cast includes Jayne Mansfield, Dorothy Keller, Fabian Dean, Billy M. Greene, Martin Horsey, and Walter Gregg. (93 minutes, 1968)

The Jackpot: An old style, little comedy, uplifted by megastars. Stewart is the winner of a radio competition although he couldn?t pay the taxes on the winnings. Cast includes James Stewart, Barbara Hale, James Gleason, Fred Clark, and Natalie Wood. (87 minutes, 1960)
