9 Thrilling Motion Picture Assessments For Your Leisure Satisfaction

By Crystal Hodge

Watching a motion picture from the luxury of your own quarters is one of the best and most inexpensive forms of amusement there is. There are many options that you can use to get the film that you want from going to the video store to joining a mail-in service to what is most likely the finest answer yet, downloading the movies directly to your computer.

Night of the Blood Monster - Lee is superior as Magistrate Jeffrey's who is a brutal judge presiding over "Bloody Assizes" after the Monmouth Revolt opposing to Baron James II, although the movie itself is dull and horrible. Cast includes Christopher Lee, Maria Schell, Leo Genn, Maria Rohm, and Margaret Lee. (84 minutes, 1970)

Dillinger - Unintelligent gangster flick written by Philip Jordan, one of the best B films of its sort although a key bank robbery is made up of stock footage lifted from Fritz Lang's You Only Live Once. Cast includes Edmund Lowe, Anne Jeffreys, Lawrence Tierney, Eduardo Ciannelli, Elisha Cook, and Marc Lawrence. (70 minutes, 1945)

Unlawful Entry - Michael and Karen Carr have had a disturbing event. Someone broke into their house, and attempted to steal from them. When Officer Pete Davis shows up to assist, he seems like a godsend. In the days to come they find officer Davis might be their most terrible nightmare.

Sing, You Sinners - Wagering Crosby couldn't face responsibility, despite of jabbing his brother MacMurray. Three siblings with diverse interests have a singing act. Can the other two brothers save the day when the gambling brother bets on a "sure thing"? Includes Wesley Ruggles, Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Donald O'Connor, Elizabeth Patterson, Ellen Drew, and John Gallaudet. (88 minutes, 1938)

Live Flesh - Obsessed child of a prostitute is incarcerated for inadvertently shooting and paralyzing a cop. Original account of teenager's error that takes him to prison. Spanish language. Cinematically stimulating, albeit, with a bravura finale. Cast includes Pedro Almodovar, Liberto Rabal, Francesca Neri, Javier Bardem, Angela Molina, Jose Sancho, and Penelope Cruz. (100 minutes, 1997)

Blank Check - Mobster Carl Quigley almost murders young Preston when he runs over his bicycle. Needing to just pay the kid off, he gives him a check. The problem is he gave Preston a blank check. Preston makes the check out for $1 million dollars and cashes it. When Quigley sees what has happened he wants his cash back. Can Preston escape Quigley and his goons?

Sgt. Bilko - An army comedy with Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd and Phil Hartman. Sgt Bilko does fundamentally everything but army duties with his platoon of soldiers. Life in Sgt. Bilko's army is quite nice. That is until Major Thorn shows up and tries to mess up the fun.

Seaside Players - Cast includes John Leyton, Mike Same, Freddie and The Dreamers, Ron Moody, and Liz Fraser. Group of adolescents performing at seaside resort dispose for a talent competition which is to be the highlight of the summer season. (94 minutes, 1965)

Seize the Day - Williams is outstanding as Tommy Wilhelm, turning 40 and a failure by any standard, he is insolvent, damaged and hopeless for love. Wiseman and Stiller offer fine aid as his cold hearted dad and a con man he naively believes in. Lots of recognizable faces in tiny roles - Tony Roberts, Richard Shull, John Fiedler, Jo Van Fleet, William Hickey, Eileen Heckart, and numerous others. Cast includes Robin Williams, Joseph Wiseman, Jerry Stiller, and Glenne Headly. (93 minutes, 1986)
