Man of Iron: Somber account of Germi, a railroad architect, whose life takes a catastrophic turn, influencing his entire family. Cast includes Pietro Germi, Luisa Della Noce, Sylva Kascina, and Carla Giuffre. (116 minutes, 1956)
Protocal: In Protocal Goldie Hawn becomes an inadvertent heroine (and ovemight star) who's satisfied with her do nothing government job. She eventually is used as a pawn for handling a Middle Eastern potentate. My Son John: Archetypal apple-pie parents (Hayes, Jagger) suspect their child (Stroller) of being a communist in this reactionary period piece. DramaticalIy overwrought, however this film is fascinating as a social history. Stroller (who's brilliant) died before film was completed. Cast includes Helen Hayes, Robert Stroller, Dean Jagger, Van Heflin, Frank McHugh, and Richard Jaeckel. (122 minutes, 1952)
Great Guns: Later Laural and Hardy Army comedy is weak, not as poor as some although far underneath their classic films. Cast includes Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Sheila Ryan, Dick Nelson, and Edmund MacDonald. (74 minutes, 1941)
The Sugarland Express: Exact amusement, based on truth, in regards to a youthful couple escaping to Sugarland, Texas, to recover their child (whom they decline to give up for adoption), and the cops who chase them all the way through Texas. Cast includes Goldie Hawn, Ben Johnson, Michael Sacks, William Atherton, Steve Kanaly, and Louise Latham. (109 minutes, 1974)
Belle of the Yukon: Little musical of bar owner Scott going straight at request of his gal (Lee). The film is fast paced but very forgettable. Cast includes Randolph -Scott, Gypsy Rose Lee, Bob Burns, Dinah Beach, Charles Winninger, William Marshall, Guinn "Gigantic - Boy" Williams, and Robert Armstrong, (84 minutes, 1944)
My Reputation: Well mounted soaper with Stanwyck excelIent as a long-restrained current widow who causes disgrace in her conservative society when she starts dating Chief Brent. Shot on a minuscule spending limit, and differentiated by abrasive, Scorsese-Iike reality. The acting is superb and Jean de Segonzac's hand-clutched camcorder is a chief plus. Cast includes Peter Greene, Adam Trese, Edie Falco, Arabella Territory, and Paul Schulzie. (100 minutes, 1991)
