A Guitar Lesson On How To easily Learn All The Notes On The Guitar

By Mike Jones

Mike at KillerGuitarTips again...

Hi guys... This week I have something for all you beginners out there! As a new guitar player striving to become a great player you will need to "eventually" learn every note on the guitar fret board!

Before you run off and hide in a corner, as I know this may seem really daunting at the moment, there is a really simple way for you to learn these notes. It is a common myth that it is difficult to learn all the notes on the fret board!! Until now!!

Here's how...

We have twelve musical notes in total using the letter A B C D E F G and the symbols # (sharp) or b (flat) to name them.

All you have to do is remember that all the letters are followed by a #(sharp) or b(flat) EXCEPT B and E.

For now we will try to keep things really simple and concentrate on using just the sharps (#) for now!

Taking the fifth string played open produces the note of A. I chose this string as it's the start of the alphabet! Now being as the open string is A the 1st fret is A#, second fret B and the third fret is C (remember there is no # after B) the 4th fret is C# meaning the fifth fret is D...

You can carry this on up the neck (remembering that there is no # after E) when reaching the 12th fret you will end up back at A again. After this point if you carry on up the fret board it all starts again. Now practice this on every string. Over time you will eventually be able to put your finger on any note and read out that note instantly!

I know this may sound a little tedious but hey you don't get anywhere without a little work and theory... Trust me it will pay off big time later on.

Also this week I would like to give you two tips! So here's your second one... also for all you beginners out there...

So far I realise there hasn't been many tips for absolute beginners but remember my full audio/video guitar course contains a secret formula that takes the beginner through to great guitar player in the shortest possible time. S, don't panic if you feel the tips I am giving you each week are a little too much at this moment in time why not subscribe to my FREE tips and tricks by going to www.killerguitartips.com and I will send you a tips each week completely free of charge together with details of the release date of the course when it is ready. The course is guaranteed to get you to a great player in the shortest possible time.

So let's get going with another tip for beginners...

You are no doubt aware that you have six strings on your guitar. The first string is the thinest and the sixth string is the thickest. If you playa a string without holding it down against the fret we call this playing the string open. This means we obviously have six open strings and each string should be tuned to a note. On a guitar standard tuning of open strings is as follows:-

6th string is E 5th string is A 4th string is D 3rd string is G 2nd string is B 1st string is E

You must memorise the notes of these open strings as it is essential to the progress of your guitar playing in the future. You need to know these off by heart.

I do hope you are all enjoying these free tips and tricks and I will catch up with you next week

Enjoy,

Cheers
