Bewitched - Isabelle is a witch, living in the San Fernando Valley, and trying to not use her supernatural powers. She finds herself being wooed by actor Jack Watt to play the role of Samantha the witch in a remake of the old 1960's sitcom Bewitched. What a curious twist of fate.
Die Hard - In position to perpetrate the perfect crime, terrorists have commandeered a Los Angeles high rise, and are holding everyone hostage. There is $460 million in the corporate safe that the terrorists want. Everything is going as per plan. Uninvited, so the terrorists don't know he is there New York cop John McClane is the single hope to stop the terrorists.
In Enemy Country - So-so designer of WW2 enthrall, set in France and England, filmed on a back-lot. Not particularly persuading. Cast includes Tony Franciosa, Anjanette Comer, Guy Stockwell, Paul Hubschmid, Tom Bell, and Emile Genest. (107 minutes, 1968)
The Geisha Boy - Jerry, an hopeless warlock, voyages to Japan with disastrous repercussions. Ingenious graphic gags; there is a cute pattern characterizing the Los Angeles Dodgers and, explicitly, Gil Hodges. Cast includes Jerry Lewis, Marie McDonald, Sessue Hayakawa, Nobu McCarthy, Suzanne Pleshette, Barton MacLane, and Robert Hirano. (98 minutes, 1958)
Life on a Strand - Musical, brilliantly filmed account of a blind boy who's informed by his teacher that his vision can be fixed if he commits his life to music; he gets to be a saintly old gentleman still without vision who voyages from village to village with his youthful disciple harmonizing songs, which he finds emotionally nurturing. Considerate film stuffed with poetic energy, and a soundtrack of astonishing melodies. Cast includes Liu Zhong Yuan, Huang Lei, Xu Qing, Ma Ling, and Zhang Zhengguan. (110 minutes, 1991)
Lilies of the Field - A "small" film that made wonderful, triumphing Poitier an Oscar as handyman who helps to put up a chapel for Skala and German-talking nuns. Cast includes Sidney Poitier, Lilia Skala, Lisa Mann, Isa Crino, and Stanley Adams. (93 minutes, 1963)
