Learning Guitar - Simple Tips to Help You Play Even Better

By Scott Forrester

Learning the guitar is difficult, though it is definitely admirable and rewarding. There is a lot of work, and there is just as much fun involved. Though you may practice again and again however, there is a chance that you will feel your efforts are getting you absolutely nowhere. Fortunately there are a few tips here that may help you to hone your kills and become the guitar player that you have always wanted to be. You will find these to be very helpful regardless of what your skill level currently is; novice or beginner, it will help you out either way.

If you wish to develop even better skills, then you need to remember to keep your posture when playing. There are a lot of people that don't understand how much of an impact posture has on your guitar playing ability. You need to sit on a chair or even bench which has no arms that make it easy for you to hold a guitar. Also make sure that your back is straight because your posture affects not only the sound but also your back.

What about holding the pick? You need to learn the proper way to hold the pick if you have dreams of playing your guitar better in the future. You'll want to hold the pick with firmness, but you won't want to hold it too tightly. Just make sure that you don't hold it so loosely that you don't drop it on accident.

The reason you don't want to grip your pick too hard when you are playing is fatigue. When you hold the guitar pick too firmly your entire arm is going to start getting tired pretty quickly. Go with a grip that is firm, but not too firm, and you'll get a great sound and won't tire out your arm as much.

Of course you also need to make sure that you pick out the right pick for playing guitar. There are flat picks and finger picks, although most people use flat picks. There are various levels of flexibility to choose from when you need a pick as well. If you are just learning to play the guitar, it is a good idea to start out with a soft pick and then once you get in practice, then go on to a pick that is firmer.

If you really want to have some fun then you should try learning some arpeggios. You likely have never heard of these, but they are a lot of fun. Not only are they fun, they are important in learning the proper way to play your guitar.

The problem with arpeggios is that you will not be able to use picks. You'll actually need to use your fingers. Your thumb will be on the bass note, and your index will be on the third. Then you can use your middle on the second, and your ring finger on the top. You have four notes now and you need to learn to do it a bit faster. Once you master this form of playing, it will actually sound very nice.

Those are only a few tips. There are many more, though these will definitely help you out so long as you stay in practice. It doesn't matter if you're only learning to play, or if you have been learning for a while, these tips will help you a lot no matter what. - 18758

The Best Way To Get Free Music

By Susan Reynolds

Downloading free music from the internet has been a favorite past time of many computer users for several years. There are some internet users who are completely amazed at how easy and quick it is to download music files to their computers. Some still do not know where to go to find the downloadable music or how to get it for free.

You can find a variety of Peer-to-Peer programs that enable you to view and transfer files from one users computer to your own and all for free. You have the ability to search for your favorite music by artist name, band or song title and there is no limit to the amount of music you can find. There are too many programs to name them all but a couple more popular P2P networking programs are Lime Wire and Kazaa.

P2P programs work where users can make their files viewable and downloadable to other users who are logged on to the network. The viewable folders contain files that are able to be downloaded by other users. The number of hits you receive when searching will depend on the amount of people that are logged on at one time that happen to have that file.

You can change the settings on the program to not allow users to view your folders or the files within them. Some users will not allow transfers of their files from users who are not sharing so keep that in mind before making any changes.

The more people that are logged on at one time and are sharing, the more hits you will receive for your search results. You can change settings in the program to not allow users to see any of your files or folders. There are users who will terminate a transfer from a user without any shared files so you may want to consider that before hiding all your files.

You should be able to recognize the file sizes of various music files as well as the extensions that are associated with them. Do not accidentally download a virus in an unknown file extension; familiarize yourself with the popular music extensions. It is common for people to create a virus named as a popular song that may contain a virus or other threatening file, just check the file size and extension and you should be ok.

To avoid infecting your system run the downloaded files through the antivirus software installed on your computer. A virus will raise havoc on your PC and could ultimately destroy your computer and all your information.

To avoid infecting your system run the downloaded files through the antivirus software installed on your computer for a quick scan. Your systems registry can be destroyed with a virus so be careful when downloading.

The piracy laws should be read and understood before you begin downloading from P2P networks. Piracy laws are explained in most peer-to-peer programs under a specific section.

Use the best judgment when you are downloading, it is after all from unknown members on the site. A good antivirus program is the only way to determine that a file is safe. There is no need to become infected when antivirus software will protect you. You can check files user ratings and also see how many times it has been downloaded. Files with higher numbers are generally safer. - 18758

The Flaming Lips Best Albums To Date

By Jason V. Dobbins

Embryonic, The Flaming Lips 12th album, is coming out this year. It seems like a perfect time to look back at the best albums The Flaming Lips have recorded and released so far. These are their best seven (in chronological order) to date. Will Embryonic replace one of these?

In a Priest Driven Ambulance (1990) - This album took what The Lips were doing in the 1980s and to the next level. In my opinion it's their first good album (I know some old school Lips fans love their '80s stuff, but not me.)

Hit to Death in the Future Head (1992) - I think Hit to Death... is an underrated Lips album that deserves far more praise than it gets. I hear a big advance from Priest... to Hit to Death... as far as sonic experimentation and psychedelia.

Transmission from the Satellite Heart (1993) - Don't judge this album by the novelty hit "She Don't Use Jelly," it's actually a very good album and that song is not a good representative of the rest of the songs.

Clouds Taste Metallic (1995) - I think this is the album that works as sort of the encapsulation of the best of the previous three albums. If you are wanting to start digging into the Lips back catalog after first being introduced to the band with their more recent work, this is probably the album to start with.

Zaireeka (1997) - You can only listen to Zaireeka as intended by playing all four CDs on four different CD players simultaneously. But there are a lot of mix-down versions of the album "out there" that gives some approximation of the experience.

The Soft Bulletin (1999) - The most perfect Lips album to date in my opinion. I think it's easily among the greatest albums of the 1990s. A modern day classic that should be heard by anyone who takes "pop music" seriously.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002) - This was an exciting new direction in 2002. Sadly I think the Lips overplayed this hand with 2006's At War with the Mystics which is, in my opinion, the worst Lips album since the "bad old days" of the 1980s. - 18758

Dont Subscribe To ANY Guitar Tutoring Course Until Youve Read This FREE, Shocking Report!

By Mike Jones

Here's how you can find out exactly what you should be looking for when choosing a guitar course. I am going to list most of the mistakes beginners make when looking through the mine field of courses available on the internet. You should have enough information be able to spot the good from the bad after reading this article.

The very best place to find guitar lessons that suit your needs is of course the internet. This fantastic medium allows you to leisurely brows through the many courses and guitar lessons that are on offer. The problem we have is that there are literally hundreds to choose from. Well, when it comes down to it you have two choices to make:

An online guitar course or an offline one?

The internet is now filled with lots of options for the beginner guitar player wanting lessons. Before the advent of the internet students only really had one option and that was to physically travel for their guitar lesson to the tutors home or place of work. With all these options now available it is far easier to make costly mistakes in choosing the right set or more importantly wrong set of lessons or course.

Before making your decision on which type of course to go for I would like to go through the advantages and disadvantages of both online and offline courses as it will hopefully help you in your final decision. We'll start with online guitar lessons.

Online Guitar Lessons or Courses

What do we mean exactly by an online guitar course? You have basically two methods of accessing online guitar courses and these are by download or by streaming (accessing the material while it is downloading). The downside of this type of course is that the quality tends not to be as good as hard copy DVD courses. The downloadable courses can take quite a while to download if you do not have a super fast internet connection.

Also it is very hard to build up an archive of material that you can refer back to over and over again. This is an absolute MUST HAVE when learning to play an instrument. Look also for a REAL address at the bottom of the webpage or internet site. DO NOT accept a PO Box as an address. A real address tells you that the company is legitimate and responsible. Also make sure they list a contact telephone number should you have any problems.

Offline Guitar Lessons or Courses

What are offline guitar courses?

Offline guitar courses or guitar lessons are lessons that are conducted by a live tutor who either comes to your home or you go to them and they charge you a fee for their services. Finding the right tutor for the job in your area can be a real challenge in itself as there are probably only a handful to choose from and are they any good?

Another problem with live guitar tutors in my opinion is that most will give you only just enough information to keep you coming back and charge you as much as they can possibly get away with. Not the best scenario.

Here are some disadvantages of going for regular guitar lessons.

* Yet another problem with regular lessons is that that you have to TRAVEL! Or in some circumstances the tutor may come to you. In both cases you have to have your lesson at a predetermined time, meaning (depending on the time of day) your day is shot, everything else has to work around it.

* Your progression will be restricted if you are not playing tunes and songs you enjoy. Your tutor may not necessarily be into the type of music you enjoy and if he/she is not prepared to teach you using your type of music then boredom will set in.

* If you need an answer to a particular issue in between lessons, what do you do??? You end up waiting for next week to come along to get your questions answered, wasting time. Ideally you need your questions answering NOW, there and then when you are stuck, this allows you to get your questions answered immediately and move on to the next stage...

* People in general feel nervous when playing back a piece in front of their tutor and generally make some mistakes through their nervousness. This is a fact. They feel much more at home and play at their best in their own surroundings with no one watching over them...

So Where Does That Leave YOU?

There is in my opinion a superb alternative to both these methods and encompasses both systems of learning.

The alternative is to have guitar lessons conducted through a hard copy DVD course that is delivered by conventional post to your door. In my opinion this far out weighs the other two methods as it combines the ease of obtaining the course through the internet, being able to shop around and you will be able to follow step by step instructions shown in Hi Definition which you can refer back to over and over again.

So if this is my recommendation, which course do you choose???

If you take my advice which I hope you do, then the lessons MUST meet the following criteria:

* A FAST Structured Progression that is VERY EASY to follow and understand.

* A course of lessons created by someone who has a vast experience in the music industry, is a professional (gets paid for playing the guitar and hasnt got a job on the side), knows what he is doing and is not some wizz kid who has learned the guitar, played for about 3-4 years and trying to cash in and make a fast buck

* A course you can study and take part in, in a nice relaxed environment with no pressure put upon you, helping you to progress at lightning pace because you are in a cool, relaxed frame of mind.

* A course of lessons that you know you CAN afford and you know will be great value for money ensuring you'll not get ripped off.

* A Solid, Cast Iron, No Questions Asked, FULL Money Back Guarantee. Just ask your guitar tutor for your money back once he has given you your lesson! It's not repeatable what he'll say!!!

* A course of lessons that doesn't beat around the bush and gives you what you are looking for straight out of the tin bringing you on as fast as possible...

* Lessons that you can refer back to over and over again that will inspire and motivate you with audio, video, illustrations and downloadable teaching aids.

* All The Fast Track Short Cuts That The Professionals DON'T Want You to Know.

My advice for anyone wanting to learn the guitar is take your time and do your research. There are many, many guitar courses out there some are very good and some very bad. Use the pointers Ive listed above and this should help you to sift through them to find one that suits your needs.

If there is another piece of advice I can give you it would be this:

Decide on a course of guitar lessons and once you have received the first two or three lessons, make sure you are happy with them then stick with it using the SAME tutor as you will get tuned into the guitar tutors methods of teaching and won't be flipping from one set of lessons to the next, one tutor to the next and getting nowhere.

This article has hopefully set out some guidelines for you to follow when choosing a guitar course or set of lessons for the first time. Use them wisely. I will be posting some articles in the near future on guitar lessons using speed learning techniques taking the beginner through to accomplished player in the shortest possible time. - 18758
