Beginner, Never Overlook the Basic Guitar Chords Chart!

By francois arcoix

Once the basic guitar chords are mastered - it only takes 10 to 15 - you will be able to play many of your favorite songs. The chords are what the background of most songs consist of and are what provide the accompaniment for other instruments. What is a chord? This is when three or more musical notes are played together.

Three strings being strummed on a guitar if your chord consists of three notes is the way to play the chord. The guitar can only play a chord consisting of six notes because the guitar has only six strings. The chords consist of three groups - Major, Minor and Seventh. The three have their own sound. The major chords are consistent, the minor chords are almost sad and the seventh chords are jazzy.

Although everyone does not agree that there exists a standard number of chords, there is an overall consensus that from 8 to 18 chords exists that every one who plays the guitar must know. These are the chords that are used in everything from country to jazz to rock. These chords should be the first ones learned. By learning them you will be able to play more songs and get more pleasure from playing.

Basic chords - what are they? The basic chord are the major and minor chords of D, E, A plus the major chords of C and G. The chords are played by leaving one or more strings out when pressing the rest down with your fingers. This makes an open chord. The fingers on one hand press the strings while the other hand strums. The chord is played and the fingers are fretting by pushing the strings against the neck of the guitar.

When the beginner starts learning to play guitar open chords are the easiest. The ones considered to be basic chords are G, F, E Minor, E, D Minor, D, C, A Minor and A. The best way to know where your fingers are supposed to go is by using a guitar chords chart. The beginning guitarist often teaches himself to play using this method.

When you begin to learn the chords the most used method is to learn the chord families. The notes of the family are mixed to produce chords that are the basics of many songs that people are playing today. This makes learning more fun when you think of it in this way and the families are learned much easier than just choosing chords randomly. You will be playing in no time.

Many songs are based on only three chords. The best way to confuse yourself is to try so many chords that you will never learn them. If you want to start playing soon, the easy chords are the ones you want to concentrate on first for the first time guitar player. There are places that have more than 2000 chords and trying to learn all of these is just a waste of time for the player who is just learning as well as those who know how to play.

There is no need to learn all of these chords (which would take a long time) when you can be having a great time playing in just a matter of a few days. When using the basic guitar chords chart you will have the information right in front of you so seeing where your fingers need to go to produce the beautiful music you like is just a few days away. - 18758

Gibson Les Paul Guitars - Why Does Paul Continue To Get Screwed

By Tim Beachum

Ask ten experts about the first Gibson Les Paul guitar and you will get ten different answers. The most popular belief is that the Gibson Guitar Corporation and electronics inventor, and jazz guitarist Frean Donni. With the release of the Fender Telecaster the electric guitar began to catch on like wildfire. Not wanting to be left behind James Verdon who was at the time the president of Gibson Guitar hired Les Paul as a consultant.

Rumors had been circulating that Les Paul had been experimenting with various guitar designs for years. Paul did have a prototype that he called, "The Log." If you were to ask some industry experts they would say that this was the first solid-body Spanish guitar ever built.

Another fact that not many know is that Les Paul had pitch his prototype, "The Log" to Gibson, but his design was rejected. Things changed in 1951 when the same design became a collaboration between the Gibson Guitar Corporation and Les Paul.

Among the guitar community Les Paul is still on of the most commonly debated topics. Enthusiast still argue over exactly what his contributions were. Some say that Paul was nothing more than a consultant and only contributed ideas for the trapeze tailpiece, and the color of the final guitar which was named, "Les Paul."

When interviewed Ted McCarty the president of the Gibson Guitar Corporation, openly stated that Les Paul only contributed his name to the project. McCarty went on to say that Paul only contributed to the tailpiece and the fitting of a maple cap over the mahogany body.

I have never understood why people have always attempted to minimize Les Paul's contributions to the historical guitar. Here's my take on it if you care to know. If Les Paul really didn't contribute a lot to the project why would Gibson put ONLY his name on the final product? - 18758
