An Yngwie Malmsteen Biography

By Nathan Spencer

For guitar enthusiasts of America the year 1983 was a turning point. It was in this year that the famous guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen left his native country, Sweden, and emigrated to USA. This guitarist is famous for inventing a new style of music that is an ear catching fusion of the beauty of both classical music and metal bombast. This style of Malmsteen sets him apart from other guitarists of his genre. The musical scene changed with his arrival in America, thanks to the strong European stamp that his music carries.

Born in the city of Stockholm, Sweden, on the 30th of June 1963, Malmsteen was exposed to the charms of classical music from the tender age of five. The credit for this exposure goes to his mother who used to listen to the compositions of Bach, one of the all time greats of music composing. Malmsteen, whose father too played the guitar was lucky to be born in a family that was musically oriented. His brother played the accordion, violin, piano, drums, and the guitar and sister played the piano and the flute.

Malmsteen, was also influenced by the 19th century violinist, Nicolo Paganini, also has a make of guitar dedicated to him. This was the turning point of his life and made him take over to playing the guitar. Those lucky enough to view the shows of Malmsteen are no doubt left spell bound with the magic this guitar virtuoso performs with his guitar. Those interested in neoclassical rock guitar should listen to his solo album, "Yngwie J. Malmsten's Rising Force" that was also nominated for a Grammy.

It might be coincidental but the day Malmsteen picked up the guitar for the first time, on the 19th of September 1970, was the same day when one of the world's legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix expired. According to Malmsteen, guitarists cannot be made unless they have a special desire within them. The rest of the journey is quite smooth once beginners get past the basics of guitar playing is what he specifies. If you too want to emulate the feats of this great star and want to become famous like him, opt in for Yngwie Malmsteen guitars which are considered to be the best guitars for rock. They are the best solo guitar. - 18758

Yoga Music For Meditation Series - OM The Word

By Mariah Claiere

LOGOS And OM

Everything in the universe originates from a primal vibration, in Christianity called the WORD. In Hinduism this concept is called OM. OM and the WORD are an expression of a universal principle, a vibration, a primordial sound which is the source of everything that exists.

Pythagoras describes the same thing in his philosophical ideas in the Music of the Spheres, where it is stated that the physical sound that we hear is but a reflection of the LOGOS (Greek) meaning the cosmic sound.

The Word And Christianity

The Christian tradition speaks of the power of the word. God speaks words and creates universes. "God said: Let there be light. And light came" (book of Moses). God utters words and the universe is created.

This is symbolically a form of sound emanation from a higher reality, which we in our physical reality call a word. The symbolism is clear, and is the same in different spiritual and religious traditions; reality is created by sound or vibration.

OM And The Atom

Modern physics and the upanishads from India may at first glance seem very different but both support the idea of the universe consisting of vibration and that there exists a kind of primordial vibration.

When we dive into the atom we discover that all matter is in a state of vibration. That vibrations come close to our perception of sound in its poetical quality of music, is expressed by the physicist Dr. Donald Hatch, who states that the universe is not made of matter, but music gives a modern equivalent to the idea of OM as the sound of creation.

Sound And Matter

We know that the solidity of matter is an illusion and that all matter consists of atoms, separated in enormous distances compared to their size. And that the atoms themselves are not at all solid, but consist of energy in movement.

According to the scientist Donald Andrews complex theory of the universe, every atom sends out a main tone, a sound which via the resonance process connects itself in groups of equivalent atoms and form up molecules, which he sees as a kind of cosmic chords. By continuing the expansion, the molecules form different objects and forms in physical manifestation. Thereby any object can be seen as a living entity, made up by chords or molecules, with each their individual complex sound.

OM In Everyday Life

The creation myths might not only be the story of how the world once was created, but could also be a symbolic description about the process of creation that is ongoing, and which each one of us is a part of. It is the creation and maintenance of each and every little atom and the realities we are creating with our minds and emotions. And it is going on right now, not in the eternal remote past! If we manage to be in accordance with life, we will be harmonious and happy.

Matter comes from vibration, matter is cosmic sound. Matter is OM which has been crystallized. The universe and earth only exist because the word is being continuously emanated. Without the word there would be only pure empty space called Ananda by the ancient yogis of India, which was the original state of the universe before manifestation.

OM As A Spiritual Practice

Advanced practitioners of Yoga have always felt OM as real as the air that they breath. Christian mystics have long know of power of the WORD in themselves and the outside universe. They feel at a deep level the continual emanating of the word OM in the continual creation processes taking place.

We are the authors of our own universe, all our thoughts and emotions coming together in a complex symphony which either sounds harmoniously with the cosmic symphony or creates noise and tension. The choice is ours, whether we choose to play disharmonious music or whether we wish to join creation harmoniously adding our own beautiful song.

So be ever mindful of what you send out because the universe hears your song! - 18758

The Long History Of The Glorious Violin

By Jim Samposzi

The violin, an instrument of the stringed family of instruments, has deep roots in the history of the world. Although the historians are not exactly sure of its origins, many believe it to have been created as far back as the late 700's in Asia. But, it is highly debated and nobody knows for sure. Either way, the first of the type you notice these days was not developed until the 15th century. Before this time, there were many like it but none that looked like the violin today. Some of the more well-known of violin-type instruments were:

The Vielle - Europe 11th century

The Rote - Europe 11th century

The Ancient Vielle - France 13th century

The Viola de Gamba - Italy 16th century

Lira de Braccio - Italy 16th century

Viola de Braccio - Italy 16th century

Vyollon - France 16th century

Violino - Italy 16th century

Viewing the list above, it is obvious that Italy had major influence on violin-type instruments before the major overhaul of the violin. However, the first iteration of the word Violin happened in England in the fifteen hundreds. The Italians though took it further by building the closest form of today's violin. By this time, this nation took the lead on building string instruments that closely resembled the violin. Also, it is noteworthy to mention that these violins used to have only three strings and did not become four-stringed instruments until the late 1500's.

After time, violin manufacturers from Germany, Austria, Holland, England, Norway, and Spain followed suit to perfect the violin and by the 1600's, many European manufacturers got involved in the craft. The construction of violins declined in the 18th century as nobody was able to expand upon the design. Furthermore, the Baroque era, a time and era in music wherein the violin was the premier instrument, died. So, many did not demand this sound any longer. Many tests and trials were done to enhance the design while keeping the traditional form and sound quality. There were a lot of failing and violin sales plummeted in the 19th century.

It did not come until the first quarter of the 20th century that manufacturers perfected the design into the classical and traditional one we know of today. The signature f-holes were conceived and included on all new model violins during the 30's. Today, they all have the f-holes and classical scroll at the top that makes them all unique. Even if this instrument played no music at all, you cannot deny the beauty of the construction. The violin is like no other instrument and is a well-known instrument today. The violin is a very popular instrument to be learned by students of elementary and grammar schools. Although it is considered a tricky one to learn, this instrument is practiced for years so one can perfect the sound.

Whenever the birth, the violin is a most beautiful addition to concerts, orchestras, and chamber groups. The harmony generated from this instrument is like no other. Today, it is included in popular music and rock even with a few tunes. The violin is constantly tinkered with by manufacturers to create the world's finest violin! - 18758
