Interested In Learning To Play An Instrument? 4 Things You Can Do Today to Get Ready

By Dorthy Weatherbush

Everyone knows that playing an instrument can be hard to do. That's why it is crucial, that if you want to be successful at learning to play an instrument, you begin doing a few things before you actually begin taking lessons. The first thing you should learn to do is to read music.

It doesn't matter whether you are learning the piano, the guitar, or the saxophone, you must know how to read sheet music. Most people learned the basics of reading music when they were in elementary school, but getting yourself re-acquainted with these skills will go along way in help you learn to play your instrument of choice. Visit your local library and pick up a book on the subject; it will be well worth your time.

If you don't have a library card, or if you owe fees at your local library, then there are a number of websites that currently offer the tools that you need to learn to read. Youtube even has a number of videos on the web that offer a more interactive way to learn to read music.

Learning to play an instrument depends a lot on the instrument you choose to play. So take plenty of time to think about what instrument would best suit you. For example, if you like keeping your hands freshly manicured, then anything with strings like a violin will not be good for you. Playing the piano will not be good for you either. Think long and hard about the advantages and disadvantages of playing the instrument you want to play and let that be part of your decision making process as well.

Take your time to also talk to musical instructors. You want the person teaching you to not only be good at playing their particular instrument, but good at teaching too. Interview plenty of people and get references before you settle on someone. After all, you are going to be investing time and money into this person so you had better be sure you are getting the most for your time and your money.

To find an instructor in your area you may want to start with your local yellow pages. If you can't find someone try searching the internet for instructors in your area. You can also try asking at your local music stores. The salespeople there should be able to point you in the right direction if nothing else.

You may also consider doing some research about the instrument that you want to play. Find out all that you can about your instrument before your first lesson. Explore the history of the instrument and find out where it came from. Ask other people who play that instrument if they have any tips for you as a beginner. You can also look online for tips from other musicians.

One of the most important things that you can so is relax. Just have confidence in your ability to learn something new. Take a few deep breaths and enjoy the beginning of your new adventure in music! - 18758

A Review of the Boss ME-70 Multi-Effects Pedalboard

By R. S. Rasnick

For quite a while I have used a Boss ME-50 multi-effects system as a backup pedalboard in case I have an issue with my main board or if I need something light and non-complicated to take to a gig. My main pedalboard is great, but it's huge, heavy, and complicated. For practices or short gigs hauling around that huge pedalboard can be a real pain, so the ME-50 has often saved me trouble and time. I was pretty satisfied with my ME-50, and then I saw that Boss came out with the ME-70. Even though I still think the ME-50 is a great multi-effects pedalboard, the ME-70 has upped the ante by quite a bit. So what's so great about the ME-70 compared to the ME-50?

For starters, the ME-70 just plain looks better. Don't get me wrong. I don't judge a pedalboard based on its color, but the black ME-70 just looks a lot more professional than the baby-blue ME-50. In the looks department, the ME-70 is just sharper.

Though looks are cool, it's the sounds that really matter. Fortunately, the ME-70 is pretty hip in that department as well. What you get with the new ME-70 are the sounds from over 40 different Boss effects pedals. These are the identical sounds that you've heard and loved for years. The best modulation, delay, distortion, and overdrive sounds from Boss are under the hood, and they sound great!

But the ME-70 isn't just a collection of Boss pedals in a box. It's got a few new tricks up its sleeve. I've never been crazy about multi-effects boards because they also seemed to include a preamp section that I never used since I like the sound of my own amp. Well, at a gig one night my amp crapped out on me, and I had to plug my pedalboard directly into the P.A. system. What a nightmare! It sounded terrible. If only I had a ME-70 at the time! The ME-70 has a built in COSM preamp that you can use if you don't have or can't use your own amplifier. Plus it's easily bypassed if you don't need it. But if you're ever in the same kind of situation I was in, you would really be thankful for a pedalboard like the ME-70. Depending on the gig, it might be the only thing you take besides your guitar.

Another great addition to the new Boss ME-70 is the looper. Boss is known for making some killer looping pedals (I've used a Loop Station for years), and it's really cool that they've added looping functionality to the ME-70. It's the same high quality that Boss loopers are known for. It includes 38 seconds of loop time which is really good since it's not a dedicated looping pedal.

One of my favorite effects is compression, and that was always a shortcoming of the ME-50. The compressor didn't have its own pedal, and the controls were pretty meager. Fortunately, the engineers at Boss saw fit to add a dedicated compressor section to the ME-70. Smart thinking.

Of course, all the great things about the ME-50 are still here. There's adjustable reverb and noise suppression as well as the rocker pedal where you can get wah, volume, and pitch-shifting effects control.

If you need a professional-level multi-effects pedalboard that is both affordable and high quality, you can't beat the Boss ME-70. My ME-50 is off to eBay! - 18758

The Benefits Of Digital Film Downloading Onto Your Portable Mini Computer

By Joyner Goodman

Did you know that you can get full movie downloads right from the Internet onto your computer? I'm absolutely thrilled about this because I'm not a big fan when it comes to movie theaters. I also hate the fact that you are interrupted by twenty commercials every five minutes watching movies on the TV.

So as a movie junkie, with over 300 DVD's in my movie collection, you can imagine how I felt when I heard about free movie downloads on the Internet. Sure you really can get them, but a bit of a warning here, free is not always better so buyer beware. I'm here to give you a bit of advice.

Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. In this case, free movie sites are nothing but poor quality, snowy pictures and old classics, not new releases. Add to that the chances of your computer getting whacked by malicious viruses and Spyware, makes you ask the question, is it really worth it? I say why would you even risk it to save a buck?

Most of these free sites are scam sites so be careful. We all know there are cruel people out there ready to steal your money and they are dressed in sheep's clothing; in this case dressed as a free site. Be smart and choose the membership sites.

Although you may pay a little bit they really are affordable and very reliable. Some are month-by-month memberships and others you may have for a lifetime. They offer unlimited downloads of your favorite DVD movies in HD audio and video quality. The download speeds are way faster than the free sites too. Also included is the DVD conversion software, and the technical support is great should you need some help.

The most important thing I want to stress here is that they are certified free from all viruses and Spyware. Also available for free movie downloads is known as the peer-to-peer networks or P2P, but I would not recommend this because of the viruses and Spyware that can be accessed. This technology allows virtually millions of people to share files with each other and this allows the potentially deadly and malicious viruses to be sent to your computer's data that can be compromised.

Getting full movie downloads to your PSP is another way to enjoy your favorite movies, TV shows and games. It is especially convenient when you are traveling. Or download your movie from the computer and burn to a CD to watch it on your big screen.

So in conclusion, if you love to watch DVD movies like I do, you love watching them in the comforts of home in your favorite chair, and you love knowing that you can download an unlimited number at a fraction of the cost of retail, why not start downloading your unlimited favorite movies now. - 18758
