Adding Midi Files to your Webpage

By Cliff Odenkirk

Adding midi files to a webpage is an easy way to add music without using large files such as mp3 for background music.

The most asked question I get is about midi files, "How do I put midi files on my page?" Here is an example of an embedded midi file I have on one of my webpages. ( EMBED src="midifile.mid" width=145 height=30 autostart=true loop=true ). surrounded by brackets

In the same directory as the webpage, place your midi file Replace midifile.mid with the name of your midi file . Width and height display a console on the page. If you do not want a player to display on the web page Enter 1 or 2 for the width and height (0 width and height might cause problems with some players).

If you want the file to automatically start playing when page is loaded use autostart=true If not, autostart=false

loop=true causes the file to play and loop, loop=false plays a file once.

There are several ways for your WWW Browser to access MIDI files (or any files for that matter) from Internet Explorer, or other browsers. In Internet Explorer, this is controlled by the "Programs" tab (under "Tools", then "Internet Options..."). Choose "Internet Programs/Set Programs/Associate a File Type or protocol with a program. In that list, look for ".mid or .midi" in the "Name" column. For those entries, the program in the "Current Default" column determines what program will be used when you click on a MIDI file on a www page.

Some online midi files uses "zipped" files, If the .zip file extension is your Unzip program, such as Winzip, the zipped file can be played by clicking or double clicking the mid file when Winzip show the contents, and it plays!

Also, If you set up your Helper Apps to "play" the midi song when selected with a particular program, you can always save it (download it) instead of playing it by right clicking on a file and choosing the "Save Target as" to save the file to your hard drive. That way, you don't have to delete your "Helper apps" entry for .mid files if you want to save it or have to hunt through your Temporary Internet Files directory, to find the file (which might have a temp name, like "GK8DETHN" or something) - 18758

How Can I Learn To Play Blues Piano?

By Michelle Edward

It is not really difficult to learn to play the piano. Almost every individual loves music. Some like rock music, pop, jazz, alternative, rhythm and blues, and many others. Whatever style of music you love, you can play it on the piano. For you to learn to play different song styles on the piano, the very first thing that you have to learn are blues piano.

When you want to get started with a certain piano style, you will find that it is time for you to look into finding the style that works well for you. This might mean that your personal style is going to be the blues, so make sure that you consider how you are going to give it a shot

To start with, you must know 12-bar blues. This is a very common progression if you want to do blues piano playing. To play this particular blues form, most pianists make use of seventh chords. A song is usually broken into 3 sets. Each of the sets consists of 4 bars. Start by playing the song on the C key. Use 'I' to illustrate the tone (C) in the C key. The IV tone is F and the V tone is G.

This means that the initial set can be rendered as I, I, I, I, while the next set is going to be IV, IV, I, I. This makes the final set V, IV, I, I. With your right hand, make sure that this is the set that you are playing on the piano.

With your left hand, make sure that you are following the 8 note pattern. This pattern will run along I-III-V-VI-VIIb-VI-V-III. Then, when you are looking at playing the C chord with your right hand, you have the notes as C-E-G-A-Bb-A-G-E. Finally, when you are looking at the F chord, you will have F-A-C-D-Eb-D-C-A, and then for the G chord, you will be rendering it as G-B-D-E-F-E-D-B.

Remember to look at the chords and the notes that are played by your left and right hand. Once you have the basics mastered, you are going to find that the blues piano is going to be very easy. Just remember to learn the 12 bar blues in the key of C, and after that, you can try it in other keys.

When you are interested in putting together a good foundation for the piano, begin by learning to play the blues. You will find that some pianists start by playing the blues and then they begin to make their way into playing other styles that they love as well. Consider what a strong foundation you can create when you are looking at moving forward with your blues skills and you will find that it can be something that will serve you well in your career to come. What kind of performance do you think you can draw?

Find a good teacher that can teach you all the things you need to know about blues piano. If you can't find a piano teacher, you can use other methods like using DVD or CD programs, online piano lessons, and a piano guide book. The learning process will be solely determined by you. If you're serious with playing piano and if you're determined to master your lessons, you will soon learn to play blues piano.

When you want to make sure that you are going to be able to play the piano, you will find that time, effort and investment are necessary. Think about the styles that you want to conquer and what they might mean for you! - 18758
